Shavuot

Description
Shavuot is the “Festival of Weeks.” The Torah states that it took the Israelites seven weeks to travel from Egypt to Mount Sinai. Therefore, seven weeks, or 49 days, pass between Pesach and Shavuot.
Shavuot is celebrated in Israel on the 6th of Sivan. It is a harvest festival tied to the date when God gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai.
While Pesach symbolizes liberation from slavery, Shavuot represents dedication to God. Women light candles on this evening. During Shavuot, it is customary to eat dairy products and refrain from any labor.
